We are pleased to invite you to the online launch event of the CivicTech Fund Africa, which will take place on 30 November 2021 at 14h00 EAT.

The Charter Project Africa is a continental initiative to amplify citizen voices through digital civic technologies. Civic technologies are digital tools that help strengthen democracy by making it easier for citizens to engage with those in power. The Charter Project aims to do this by boosting citizen involvement in the implementation of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG).

The initiative’s new CivicTech Fund Africa will offer pioneers access to seed grants, technology and data support, and access to policy/topic experts from the Charter Project Africa coalition. The coalition includes AfricTivistes, Code for Africa (CfA), the Gorée Institute, Democracy Works Foundation, the European Centre for Development Policy Management (ECDPM) and the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD).

The Fund will initially target innovators in 11 African Union member states (Benin, Botswana, Cabo Verde, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, and Zambia). It will expand to supporting initiatives elsewhere on the continent in a future phase.

 You should attend this event to:

-       Know more about the Charter Project Africa;

-       Learn about CivicTech Fund Africa and its objectives;

-       Have an overview of the website and the selection process;

-       Have the chance to ask questions during the Q&A session.

The event will also bring together civil society representatives and high-level officials to discuss and share insights of how civic technology and digital engagement can be used to facilitate civic participation and promote inclusive public decision-making.

High-level speakers include representatives from the European Union and the African Union, including from the African Peer Review Mechanism, the Pan-African Parliament and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

The event will take place online. Please register your interest and fill in the form below with your participant’s information.
