In its program ICT4Justice [ICT for Justice], AFRICTIVISTES celebrates the Africa Month of Justice. This year, all 31 days of August 2019 are dedicated to #AfricaMonthOfJustice. It is an opportunity for Africtivistes to speak about justice issues from a human rights perspective. Africa Month of Justice is also a set of activities of reflection, information and sharing all over the African continent.
From August 1 to 31, 2019, a series of conferences, workshops and trainings are organized by civil society organizations, associations and movements of human rights activists in different African countries.
This first edition of #AfricaMonthOfJustice is dedicated to the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) and its legal instruments. Conscious of the central role and its importance in the defense of the interests of the populations and for the political stability of the continent, Africtivists with its partner organizations think that the integrity and the independence of the Commission constitute a criterion of success for the latter.
It is therefore urgent to promote the work of this commission and strengthen the link between populations and legal instruments such as:
- the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights;
- the Constitutive Act of the African Union;
- the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance
- the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa;
- the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples 'Rights establishing an African Court on Human and Peoples' Rights;
- the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child;
- the AU Convention Governing the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa.
At the end of these activities, reports will be submitted to the ACHPR and the organizations working on the campaign. These reports will be presented in the form of a return to the missions of the Commission but also as recommendations. They will also be published on the official website and pages of Africtivistes, accompanied by videos summarizing these activities.
